Meet Sherry Bova, Our First Heart of the Home Award Winner

Earlier this year, Ruth’s House celebrated its first anniversary and presented the first-ever Heart of the Home award to Sherry Bova.

As our House Manager, Sherry’s compassion, strength, and daily service to our residents inspire us all. As a single mom of six, she pours her heart into everything she does—both at Ruth’s House and as a fierce advocate for women chasing their dreams. She recently earned her degree in social work from Liberty University and is now setting her sights on a Master’s in Counseling.

When our first mom graduated from Ruth’s House this summer, she wrote a note reflecting on the impact Sherry made on her life. She shared:

Sherry is one of those rare people whose warmth and thoughtfulness stay with you. From the very first time we met, she approached us with empathy, kindness, and a genuine desire to help. From working alongside her in the office, I’ve had the privilege of getting to know her better — and the more I learn about her, the more I admire and appreciate her.

She stepped in whenever I needed an extra hand around Ruth’s House, encouraged me with patience as I learned to cook (something I began to look forward to because of her and our special smoothie afternoons), and helped my son grow more comfortable with something as tricky as the car seat. She also made complex paperwork and navigating insurance feel manageable, walking us through every step with steady, supportive guidance.

Every week, during our meetings, Sherry came not just with kind words and encouragement, but also with something practical in mind — clothes, diapers, or simply creative, thoughtful ideas to help my son thrive. It was clear she genuinely cared about our well-being, and that care was felt just as much in the little things as in the big ones.

Sherry also brought so much joy and life to Ruth’s House through the activities she helped create, like painting with all the kids and planning special day events. She made the house feel more like a home, not just through what she did, but through who she is.

…I once told her I believed she was in exactly the right profession, because she is. She’s bright, compassionate, and incredibly resourceful. She doesn’t just solve problems — she cares, deeply, and that care is what drives her…Her care, her presence, and her heart have left a lasting impact on both me and my son.

Thank you, Sherry, for all you do for the moms at Ruth’s House!
